do i need to go back to change my visa

• hello i am in uk on student visa that is going to expire after 4 months and i am going to marry next month with a british citizen. if i extend my student visa so can i convert it to spouse visa later on when we have savings ? will it convert in uk or i need to go back to my home country to change it to spouse visa. and if i need to go to my home country for spouse visa and incase of rejection of spouse visa can i come back on my student visa ?
