transfering your number between carriers in Canada

I have been in Canada about 10 months I and I am not in a contract with Telus. I have heard that soon you will be able to switch mobile carriers in Canada but keep your old number. Anybody has information on when this may happen?

cell phone number portability
It will be enabled in 2007. There was a ruling by the CRTC recently.
