Why is Japan´s Telecom Industry so Far Ahead?

• Are the Japanese just THAT much better with electronics? I heard that they will be launching a 4G network soon (meanwhile the rest of the world is trying to catch up to 3G!). Will the rest of us ever catch up?

  I think the Japanese just tend to look into the future with this kind of thing. Probably cultural more than anything. Other thoughts?
