The housing and rental market in Panama

Introduction

If you are planning on moving to Panama, you will be pleased to know that there is plenty of accommodation available as the real estate market in the country is thriving.

You can find all sorts of accommodation from a mountain cottage, to a beach house, a modern apartment all the way up to a villa with a private swimming pool.

Expats often prefer to rent condominiums or apartments in gated communities. These communities usually benefit from security staff and cameras and have common areas such as a gym, a swimming pool and a nursery.

If you choose to live in a house, you could enjoy a garden or even a swimming pool, but basements and attics are not common, as is usually the case in Europe or the United States.

Depending on your needs, you can rent either furnished or unfurnished accommodation. Keep in mind that in Panama, unfurnished apartments do not come with appliances. If you don't want furniture, but would like to rent with appliances, look for “Linea Blanca” on the rental ad. These are the properties that do come with appliances.

To find apartments online you can visit InmoPanama , one of the most visited real estate portals in Panama.

The price you will pay for rental depends on the size of your accommodation (measured in square meters) and its location. However, you should always feel free to negotiate the asking price as there is a general tendency to announce a high price before settling for a lower one. The longer you commit to renting a place, the better you will be able to negotiate.
