In Luxembourg you drive on the right-hand side and overtake on the left-hand side.
Luxembourg has six motorways, three of which connect with neighbouring countries and the following cities:
- Metz, France (A3)
- Brussels, Belgium (A6)
- Trier, Germany (A1)
The speed limit for motorways is 130 km/h (81 mph) and 110 km/h (68 mph) in wet conditions. On country roads the maximum speed is 90 km/h (56 mph) and in built-up areas 50 km/h (31 mph). In some areas around schools is speed limit is 30 km/h (19 mph). All highways are free and you don’t have to pay any tolls.

Renting a car in Luxembourg
To rent a car in Luxembourg you have to be a minimum of 23 years old and have held your driving licence for at least one year. Drivers under 25 might have to pay a surcharge. International companies such as Sixt, Europcar, Hertz and Budget have offices at the airport and in Luxembourg City. Additionally, many companies offer a pick up and drop off service.
Parking in Luxembourg
It is quite difficult to find parking in the cities, especially in Luxembourg City. There are parking zones with different hourly tariffs in Luxembourg City:
- White: Parking is allowed for 30 minutes.
- Orange: Parking is allowed for a maximum of 2 hours.
- Yellow: Parking is allowed for 3-5 hours on the road and 5-10 hours in a car park.
- Green: Parking is allowed for a maximum of 5 hours.
- Purple: Parking is allowed for a maximum of 10 hours.
What to do in case of an accident
- Stop immediately.
- Place a red warning triangle 30 metres down the road.
- Call the police (113) and the ambulance (112) if someone is injured.
- If no one is injured it is not necessary to call the police or an ambulance.
- Each driver involved in the accident has to fill in an insurance declaration form (constat amiable d’accident).
